Heartbeats of Appalachia: Keeping Our Stories Alive

Heart-shaped design with U.S. flag and heartbeat over mountains. Surrounded by white and red flowers. Decorative swirls enhance the scene.

Why keeping our Appalachia stories alive is so important. Appalachia is more than just a place—it’s a way of life, a legacy built on faith, resilience, and community. Every town in these mountains has a story to tell, and through Heartbeats of Appalachia, we are working to ensure those stories are never forgotten.

This project is an open invitation for Appalachian towns to share what makes them unique. Whether it's the memories passed down through generations, the faith that has sustained families, or the traditions that continue to shape our communities, every town has a heartbeat worth preserving.

We invite students, churches, local historians, and families to contribute their voices. Imagine school essays showcasing what young people love about their hometowns, elders sharing their wisdom and experiences, and families keeping the stories of coal miners and pioneers alive. Through this initiative, we aim to build a living archive of Appalachian heritage that will inspire and educate future generations.

By participating, your town will have the opportunity to be featured on our website, where your stories, photos, and history will be celebrated. If your community has a story to tell, we encourage you to register your town below and become a part of Heartbeats of Appalachia.

Together, let’s keep the spirit of our Appalachian roots alive—one story at a time.
